The Medal:
The architect Alberto Burro, in
collaboration with the producer Dal Mas, has thought of the rosette of
the Basilica of San Zeno as a theme for the 2019 medal, a reminder of an
important detail of one of the many magnificent monuments of the city.
FORTUNE – Work of Brioloto, sculptor and architect of the
beginning of the XIII century, the rose window is decorated by six
statues that represent the alternate human events: the man on the throne
who then falls down crushed by misfortune and then goes back, to create
a virtues circle who portrays himself as a wheel of fortune.
This metaphor of life can also be transferred to the race and Verona Marathon has thought of this object as a wish for departure, acceptance of difficulties along the route that culminates with the arrival on a trail of luck. The message is to not be discouraged, accept the difficulties and, finally, reward yourself and then start again. This message is perfectly integrated into the geometric shape of the rose window which, representing a continuous line without beginning and end, has the meaning of eternity. Source

My first one: "Verona Marathon"
"Last Sunday I ran the Verona Marathon. It was my first marathon, and
I’ve been training for half a year to be in perfect shape. I went
there with my wife Stefania, who is a runner too, but she ran the Half
marathon. Well, Verona is the city of Juliet and Romeo, so what’s best
than running with your Love?
In Sunday morning there was a bad weather, but luckily, we started few
minutes after the rain stopped falling. I reached the 3.40 pacers and
my run friend Mauro within the first kilometer. We kept the pace
despite some shower of rain, and the blowing wind. The first 10k flew
by, no problems at all. I was very tense and focused, because I didn't
want to waste energies. We got out of the city, running along the road
beside the Adige river till Parona town, where we turned back. Getting
into Verona, the bridge “Ponte della Vittoria” was the crossing point:
at left the final 2 kilometers of the Half Marathon race, at right the
second half of the marathon. I turned right.
At 21th kilometer, one of the pacers said "Now you begin the
marathon!". We ran some kilometer in the center of the city, passing
in front of the magnificent church of San Zeno Maggiore - this year
medal is inspired from its incredible rose windows. Then, we came back
to the bank of the river, and in the wind too. We lost some of the
runners along the way. At 25th kilometer I started feeling tired legs,
so I ate some bananas - thanks Mauro for passing me them! At 30th
kilometer Mauro accelerated, I was sure he had much more energies than
what he spent till then. Returning to Verona, the wind started
"defeating" people: many runners were walking… in the last 10
kilometers we passed at least one hundred people!
I was very tired too, and the left calf sent signals of a coming
cramp. But we were already in Verona, running along narrow and hilly
streets. I remember few things of that part of the race. I only wanted
to get to the finish line. When we crossed the main square “Piazza
delle erbe” I lost sight of the pacers, I only saw them orange
balloons in the distance for a moment. I was so tired that I didn't
notice when I passed them at 40th kilometer refreshment. Then they
reached me at 41th kilometer, when I had to stop for a minute due to a
painful calf cramp. Thanks to their great support, I started running
again, and crossed the finish line under 3 hours 40 minutes!
That's where I saw my wife waiting for me and I started crying, but
this is another story."
